YMCA Teen Achievers Program
Since 2009, Scholar Baller® has partnered with the YMCA of Central Florida. Each year, Scholar Baller® is responsible for leading one of the Career Clusters for the YMCA Teen Achievers Program. Graduate students from the DeVos Sport Business Management Program at the University of Central Florida function as facilitators of select lesson plans from the Scholar Baller Curriculum™. Some of the topics that have been covered this year include the “Game of Academics” where achieving academically is conceptualized as a competition. In addition, at some of the learning sessions, there are discussions on the meaning of a scholar-baller® as an educated individual that participates in athletics, art, music, or any extracurricular activity. The participating high school students also learn how planning and decision-making can positively or negatively affect their lives. Students in the YMCA Teen Achievers Program gain valuable insight into how student-athletes can utilize their skills gained, both on and off the field of competition, to excel academically, personally and professionally. Below is a photo of the student participants in the YMCA Teen Achievers Program along with the Scholar Baller® facilitators.
